We promote the voluntary purchase of renewable supply by consumers.

A sustainable competitive marketplace is based upon customer knowledge and simplicity. We are promoting and simplifying the means for consumers to purchase their energy needs. Questions of individual purchase of renewable sources of energy generation are topics of consumer interest.

We provide an unbiased source of market information on renewables.

Individual purchase of renewable energy supply is convoluted. The marketplace now heaviliy relies on government subsidies for support. We encourage the production of renewable energy through competitive market mechanisms. We encourage the differentiation of renewable energy as a separate source of supply with very beneficial attributes.

The founders of THREI were concerned with the direction renewable energy development was taking, both nationally and internationally. In the US, the states were competing with the federal government on renewable portfolio standards. Renewable project development was being subsidized by individual consumers who did not realize they were subsidizing renewable development. At the same time, these customers might be seeking to purchase renewable energy to satisfy a desire to “be green”.

A market test was conducted to discern support for such an Institute. Parties from education, industry and government were interviewed. Unanimous support for institute establishment was expressed.

Our members come from all walks of life, in various sectors of industry, government and business that are interested in being energy smart.
